This page contains some conjecture, which may contain spoilers for HAWKEYE, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, ECHO, and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Kevin Feige has announced that Charlie Cox would continue to play Daredevil, which will come as no surprise to Marvel fans who have been following numerous behind-the-scenes speculations and intriguing MCU leaks.
When it came to the matter, the Marvel Studios master selected his words carefully, but he did ultimately announce that the fan-favorite actor, who starred in all three seasons of the acclaimed Netflix series Daredevil, will be the one to play The Man Without Fear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"If you're looking for Daredevil in the future, Charlie Cox would be the guy portraying Daredevil," Feige told CinemaBlend. "It has to be seen where we see that, how we see that, and when we see it."
When, where, and how? Cox might play Matt Murdock in a variety of upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe productions, two of which could happen within the next three weeks.
Maya Lopez alias Echo, a figure renowned for her ties to Matt Murdock in the pages of Marvel Comics, was introduced into the MCU in the third episode of Hawkeye on Disney+, "Echoes," and it's been announced that Alaqua Cox will play Lopez in an Echo spinoff series that might easily incorporate Daredevil.
The reappearance of Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin was also hinted at in the same episode. Of course, when Kingpin appears, Daredevil isn't far behind. There are also reports that Cox will reprise his legendary role in the highly anticipated MCU threequel Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will be released this month.
Cox has been receiving inquiries about his Daredevil return since the Netflix program was abruptly canceled in 2018, causing fans of the street-level Marvel series to lose hope. In mid-2019, he confessed that the show's termination had come as a "complete shock," and that he had turned down other offers to feature in the fourth season.
It's unlikely that the MCU's Matt Murdock will be totally in sync with the Netflix version of the character, even if Marvel gives fans an early Christmas surprise. In October of this year, Cox hinted that resurrecting Daredevil in any future endeavors may entail some significant alterations.
"I assume it would be a reworking of the character and the program if there was a possibility for me to come back as Daredevil, whatever that would look like," the actor said. "Of sure, there will be certain things that are the same whether they chose me to do it."
We'll have to keep our eyes open this month to see what the MCU has in store for us.
Hawkeye is now available to watch on Disney+. On December 17, Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released. The launch date for Echo is presently unknown.
