Manchester United vs Arsenal live score and result updates: Premier League latest as Ronaldo scores winner

Manchester United beat Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick extending his unbeaten record as caretaker manager and stepping down as first-team coach.

Arsenal took the lead through Emile Smith-Rowe in the 13th minute, with David de Gea on the ground holding his foot after the strike made its way into the back of his goal.

Because referee Martin Atkinson did not blow his whistle before the ball crossed the line, the goal remained.

Just before halftime, United equalized thanks to a well-worked play completed by Bruno Fernandes. The hosts maintained their lead after the interval, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his 800th career goal in the 52nd minute.

Two minutes later, Martin Odegaard equalized for Arsenal with a similar goal. With 20 minutes remaining, Ronaldo scored his second goal from the penalty spot after Fred was fouled in the box by the Norwegian.

From there, the game heated up as both teams fought for dominance, but neither could breakthrough.

United's win was their first in four league games, and it moved them up to the seventh place, while Arsenal remained in fifth place.

Carrick claims that leaving the club was '100% his decision.'

Following his spell as caretaker manager, Michael Carrick has opted to quit Manchester United.

"It was 100 percent my choice," he remarked after the 3-2 triumph against Arsenal.

"I made the choice during the previous week because I valued the club and the new manager who was about to take over." There has been no cross-pollination.

"I made my choice before talking to anyone" (Ralf Rangnick). It wasn't an easy choice, but it was the correct one for the club. "All I wanted was for us to win the game."

Carrick remarked, "My time at this magnificent club will always rank among the greatest years of my career."

"I never in my wildest dreams could have envisaged winning so many titles when I originally signed over 15 years ago, and I will never forget the amazing experiences I have both as a player and as a member of the coaching staff."

"However, after much consideration and analysis, I have come to the conclusion that now is the best moment for me to leave the club."

"I'd want to express my gratitude to all of the players, with a special mention for the backroom crew; working long hours with such a wonderful bunch of people has been a true joy, and I've established some lifelong connections."

"I am and always will be a Manchester United supporter, and I will attend as many games as possible."

"I wish Ralf, the staff, the players, and the supporters nothing but the best in the future, and I look forward to being in the stands and cheering for the guys."
