Antonio Brown has parted ways with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
During a third-quarter drive against the New York Jets, the star wideout removed his helmet, jersey, and pads, waved to the crowd at MetLife Stadium, and sprinted into the tunnel. Mike Evans, a teammate, was seen on video attempting to stop Brown from removing his jersey.
After Tampa Bay's 28-24 comeback win, Bucs head coach Bruce Arians notified the media that Brown was no longer with the club.
"He isn't a Buc anymore. That concludes the story "According to Arians.
According to Bucs sideline reporter TJ Rives, Brown was allegedly benched by Arians before leaving the field. The club told Greg Auman of The Athletic that it would not comment on the situation until after the game.
After the game, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady described it as a "tough scenario."
Brady told reporters, "We all want him to seek treatment in the ways that he needs it." "We are all devoted to him. He will not be joining our squad, unfortunately."
"People should be sympathetic and empathetic with what is occurring," Brady continued.
The former Pro Bowler caught three catches for 26 yards against the Jets, who were leading 24-10 when he left. Tampa Bay rallied from a 14-point hole to upset New York 28-24 and improve to 12-4 on the season.
Brown went on an extended tirade after his first game in two months a week ago, expressing his displeasure with inquiries regarding Arians' support for his reinstatement from a three-game suspension for breaching the joint NFL-NFLPA COVID-19 guidelines.
Brown noted at the time, "There's a lot of drama." "There's a lot of drama you folks make, and a lot of drama that people who want things from me produce. But that's simply a part of life, a part of being in a position like this. I don't have any influence over what others desire from me, what they write about me, or what they say about me. All I could do was wake up every day and be the best person I could be, and when I got the opportunity to perform my job, do it the best manner I could, which is exactly what we did today."
