Caleb Williams, a former Oklahoma quarterback, announced on Tuesday that he will transfer to USC for the 2022 season.
On Jan. 3, Williams joined the transfer portal, indicating that he might stay with the Sooners despite his intention to look at other possibilities. Just over a month after former Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley left for USC, Williams decided to enter the transfer portal. He'll now be reuniting with Riley as the Trojans' newest member.
Williams told ESPN's Pete Thamel on Tuesday, "I wanted to go somewhere I believed would give me with the most development both on and off the field." "Getting to know Coach Riley and becoming comfortable with his offense, as well as already knowing some of the men on the team, all played a role in my pick."
In 2021, Williams appeared in 11 games for Oklahoma. With the Sooners, he threw for 1,916 yards and 27 touchdowns, including two touchdowns, passes to beat Texas 55–48 in a Red River Shootout to remember.
In 2021, Oklahoma ended 11–2. Last season, Williams' replacement at quarterback, Spencer Rattler, committed to South Carolina in December 2020.
Williams was a top high school recruit who selected Oklahoma over Alabama, LSU, Clemson, Georgia, and more than a dozen other colleges. When Clay Helton was still the Trojans' coach, he was also offered by USC.
Because both Kedon Slovis (Pitt) and Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss) have departed the program, Williams will likely arrive in Los Angeles with only one man to beat out for the starting quarterback job. Miller Moss, a freshman, is the sole returning quarterback from last year's squad.
