According to NFL Network, the new leadership of the Las Vegas Raiders is ready to commit to Derek Carr as their future quarterback.
According to the source, while there has been conjecture that the Raiders intended to move on from Carr, new head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler are ready to welcome him and talk about a contract extension.
Carr has one year left on his five-year, $125 million contract, which he signed in 2017, and will make around $20 million in 2022.
In 2021, the Raiders finished 10-7 and lost a wild-card game against the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-19. Carr threw for 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 428 passes for 4,804 yards, both career highs.
Carr, now 30, was the No. 36 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft (second round). Carr has a 57-70 record in eight seasons as the Raiders' starting quarterback, throwing for 31,700 yards, 193 touchdowns, and 85 interceptions. Three times he has been named to the Pro Bowl.
