On Tuesday, a psychologist hired by actor Johnny Depp's lawyers testified that his ex-wife Amber Heard may have a personality issue.

Depp's legal team enlisted the help of Dr. Shannon Curry, a certified clinical and forensic psychologist in California and Hawaii, to testify about any potential domestic abuse in Depp and Heard's relationship.

Curry testified under oath that she used case papers, medical records, mental health treatments, and audio and video records to conduct a psychological examination of Heard, finally deciding that she fulfilled the criteria for histrionic personality disorder. Curry testified that she met with Heard for a total of 12 hours on December 10 and 17.

Curry testified that the findings of Ms. Heard's examination "supported two diagnoses...borderline personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder."

Curry classified Heard as a "3-6" code type based on the exam results. That, she added, implies Heard is obsessed with his image, is prone to be nasty to others, is unwilling to accept wrongdoing, and is prone to externalizing guilt. According to Newsweek, those with comparable ratings were "passive-aggressive, self-indulgent, self-centered, [and] eager for acceptance and attention."

Curry leads the Curry Psychology Group as its director. On its website, the organization describes itself as "a renowned multi-specialty counseling facility in Orange County, CA." Curry "has 15 years of expertise performing research, treatment, and psychological evaluations relevant to trauma, violence, and relationships," according to the website.

Curry confirmed that she is not board-certified under questioning. Board certification is not essential for a doctor to practice in their area, but it is an additional step that many doctors take to demonstrate an advanced degree of knowledge and expertise.

Histrionic personality disorder, which falls under the category of "dramatic personality disorders," according to the Cleveland Clinic, is characterized by a strong desire to command attention and the employment of well-developed social skills to achieve this goal.

According to the clinic's website, "those with these diseases experience powerful, unstable emotions and skewed self-images." "Self-esteem in persons with a histrionic personality disorder is based on other people's approval rather than a genuine sense of self-worth. They have a strong need to be recognized and will frequently act out in dramatic or inappropriate ways to do so."

The clinic lists a number of possible symptoms of histrionic personality disorder, including a dislike of not being the center of attention, a proclivity to act rashly or without thinking, an obsession with physical appearance, difficulty maintaining relationships, and occasionally threatening or attempting suicide for attention.

Depp is suing Heard for defamation over an opinion post she wrote for the Washington Post that was published in December 2018. During their marriage, which lasted from 2015 to 2017, Heard seemed to tacitly accuse Depp of domestic violence. Depp is demanding $50 million in damages, alleging that the charges are false and have harmed his career and image in Hollywood. Heard was also allegedly abusive to the actor, according to the actor.

Depp's role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Warner Bros. Fantastic Beasts trilogy was terminated as a result of Heard's claims. In WB's 2023 superhero sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Heard will reprise her role as Mera, the sidekick/love interest. Depp supporters have attempted to start a campaign to have Heard removed from the series.
