Avalanche Grades From Tough Game 5 Loss

C – Jack Johnson It all started off well for the entire squad, but then it all went downhill. The vet had a quiet night with just under 13 minutes and one shot on the net.

A – Bowen Byram What a run Byram has had. He was as good as anyone on the squad in terms of consistency and performance. He had two assists and was one of the few Avs who played well from beginning to end.

C+ – Erik Johnson He had some fantastic shifts and others where he struggled to move the puck out of the zone cleanly.

Devon Toews: C+ – Landeskog tips in a wrister from the point that finds its way through. In the waning minutes, he made a few of the plays where he just threw the puck away. He hasn't been himself in a long time.

Cale Makar's grade is a C. The last minutes were a battle for everyone once again. The squad surrendered a 3-0 and then a 4-3 advantage. With 56 seconds left, Makar's man scored the game-tying goal.

Andrew Cogliano: C+ - He keeps putting his body on the line in front of huge shots. I'm in the 300 part, and it appears to be unpleasant.

D – Valeri Nichushkin He had a hard time out there tonight. Tonight, we didn't do anything offensively and ended up with a minus-three.

C – Nicolas Aube-Kubel He went for his own rebounds and skated hard, but in a game like this, you have to go a little deeper.

C – Alex Newhook I admire his speed and effort, but he has yet to put a shot on the net, and the Avs are on their way to St. Louis for Game 6. With Andre Burakovsky back in the lineup, he might be back on the bench the following game.

Logan O'Connor's grade is a C-. With 9:53 TOI and a minus-two, he finished the game. It's simply not good.

Nathan MacKinnon: X - Thought he was the only one who wanted to play in the Western Conference Finals. The squad couldn't hold it together after scoring an unbelievable third goal to make it 4-3. The individual effort was incredible.

J.T. Compher : D - There isn't anything out there. He went unnoticed by me. There were over 12 minutes of play and only one shot.

Josh Manson: C - He got involved in a few chirping fights but never went all the way. Tonight was just a total team breakdown.

Darren Helm: C+ – Let me know if you've heard something like this previously...

In terms of hits, the squad is tied for first.

Artturi Lehkonen: B - Did a good job on both ends of the field. Until the third period, when he became more of a spectator.

C- – Nazem Kadri All night, he unintentionally pumped up the crowd. One of the most memorable moments at Ball Arena, to be honest. At one point, spectators placed "Stand With Naz" placards on the glass and yelled his name. However, he was a minus-three tonight and struggled to transition.

Gabe Landeskog: C - I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the locker room at times like this. What happened between the third and overtime periods? He did great tonight, but you can't let your team come apart like that as the captain. With the goaltender removed, he made a terrible judgment with the puck at the conclusion of regulation, which resulted in the tying goal.

C+ – Mikko Rantanen Currently, he is unable to purchase a goal. He still has 10 assists, so it's not all doom and gloom. The Avs are counting on their regular-season point producer to get things rolling. For the full playoffs, copy and paste.

D — Darcy Kuemper When massive saves were required, they couldn't be made. It's not acceptable to score three goals in the third period. The rest of the squad didn't help them out, but when you're up 2-0 with 56 seconds remaining, you've got to make the save. From my perspective, the overtime goal appeared to be soft and one that he would like to see reversed.
