Ana de Armas Is Marilyn Monroe in First Trailer for Blonde

Marilyn Monroe has had quite a week. Blonde, the much-awaited NC-17-rated Marilyn Monroe film starring Ana de Armas, received its trailer on Thursday.

Based on Joyce Carol Oates' novel, Blonde reimagines Monroe's life and times from her beginnings as Norma Jeane Baker through her ascension to Hollywood prominence. Andrew Dominik, directed The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, starring Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel, and Evan Williams in the film.

"I examined hundreds of images, videos, audio recordings, and films - whatever I could get my hands on, including Joyce's work," says the author "In an interview with Netflix's Queue, de Armas said. "Every scenario is based on an image that already exists. We'd go over the shot, again and again, debating what was going on. 'How was Norma Jeane feeling here?' was typically the first inquiry. We wanted to present her narrative from a human perspective. Marilyn was the most well-known person on the planet, but it also made Norma the least well-known."

Marilyn is shown in despair before a vanity in the black and white trailer. "I beg you to come. She makes a living as a makeup artist, wipes away her tears, and tries to complete her eyeliner. "She'll be here soon," he promises her. A sorrowful rendition of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" plays while cameras flash on Marilyn's legendary subway grate scene. Afterward, the trailer switches from black-and-white to technicolor to show Marilyn exiting a limo and entering the stage in a shoulder-baring pink gown.

Returning to black-and-white, we find Marilyn at her vanity. Her makeup artist says, "She's coming." "She'll be here soon." To close the teaser, De Armas regains her composure and displays her famous Marilyn mega-watt smile.

Who is it that Marilyn is so eager to see? Blonde premieres on Netflix on September 23rd, so you'll have to wait to find out.
