WASHINGTON — The second of eight sessions will delve into the details of former President Donald Trump's efforts to reverse the 2020 election, following Thursday's prime-time introduction to the committee probing the Capitol attack's findings.
The latest:
- A hopeless task: Officials from Trump's team said they advised him that disputing the election results in 2020 based on election fraud suspicions would almost probably fail.
- What was Trump's source of information? According to testimony from campaign sources, Trump relied on Rudy Giuliani, who was alleged to be inebriated, for advice on how to react to the election results rather than advisors who warned him he had lost.
- The testimony of Trump's former campaign manager has been canceled: Due to a family situation, Bill Stepien will no longer be testifying, according to the committee.
- Adviser cautions against announcing win: During depositions, some of Trump's senior campaign aides told the committee that they advised him against declaring victory on election night 2020.
- Trump's inner circle: The committee's early session revealed how some of Trump's top political and legal advisers responded to the former president's defeat in the 2020 election and the conspiracy theories that fuelled his challenge to the results.
