Ivana Trump speaks at an event on June 13, 2018, in New York. |
Ivana Trump, Donald Trump's first wife, passed away on Thursday at the age of 73, the family said.
According to a tweet by the former president on Truth Social, she passed away at her residence in New York City. In a statement, the Trump family referred to her as an "amazing woman."
"Our mother was a remarkable woman who excelled in business, was a renowned athlete, radiantly beautiful, and a loving mother and friend. Ivana Trump was resilient, according to the statement. She accepted this nation after escaping communism. She instilled in her kids the values of compassion, perseverance, and grit. Her mother, three children, and ten grandkids will all miss her terribly.
She was born and raised in communist-run former Czechoslovakia before leaving in the 1970s. In 1977, she wed Trump, her second husband.
After 15 years of marriage and three children, the couple split in 1992. The former model and entrepreneur of Czech ancestry had a number of positions inside the Trump family enterprises, including former vice president of interior design for the Trump Organization. She worked on the Grand Hyatt Hotel, the Trump Tower, and the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.
Donald Trump wrote in his post, "She was a fantastic, beautiful, and outstanding woman, who had a terrific and inspirational life. "Her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric, were her pride and joy. She was extremely proud of them, just as we all were of her. Peace be with you, Ivana.
She claimed in her memoir from 2017 that despite the former New York power couple's nasty divorce, they had been friendly recently and spoke once a week.
She provided Trump with advice and criticism when he was on the campaign trail, she said to the New York Post in 2016.
She told the New York Post, "We talk before and after the appearances, and he asks me what I thought." The phrase "You think it, I say it," which she said she invented, would be used to advise Trump to "be calmer."
