Since immediately after her Friday vehicle accident in Los Angeles, Anne Heche has been unconscious.
The actor's health was first described as "stable," and firemen said she had spoken with rescuers while they were pulling her from the rubble.
A spokesman for Heche, 53, however, stated on Monday that "despite prior indications that Heche was stable, [she] went unresponsive, sliding into a coma, and is in critical condition."
The spokespersons for Heche continued, "At this time, Anne is in a very severe situation. She needs artificial respiration due to major lung damage, and surgery is needed to treat burns.
Heche's publicist had stated on Saturday that her status was "stable" and that her family would appreciate "thoughts and prayers." According to accounts from the morning before, Heche may have been traveling quickly along a street before colliding with a home.
This resulted in a "major fire" that took many firemen an hour to put out, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The home's resident managed to flee without harm, although the structure was later ruled unusable. In order to assist the owner in replacing her possessions and home, a fundraising website has been created.
Fox News was informed by the next-door neighbors that the house had been completely destroyed by the automobile. "Because the windows were smashed, I unlocked the car's back door. That was difficult since Heche responded by saying that she wasn't OK. I am aware that they didn't remove her from the vehicle until the fire had almost been out.
The parts she played in movies like Psycho, Donnie Brasco, Six Days Seven Nights, and Cedar Rapids is what made Heche, who is a mother of one boy, so well-known.
