Here are five exciting things to do this weekend and beyond, including the return of Frightmare on 78 and a traveling King Tut exhibit.
1. King Tut exhibit
The reproductions in this traveling exhibit include King Tut's burial mask, the golden canopic shrine, the renowned golden mummy case, and the bejeweled mummy of the pharaoh himself. These treasures were discovered in Egyptian king Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. Actual artifacts are no longer permitted outside of Egypt. Tutankhamun was in power from 1332 to 1323 B.C., although he passed very young (about 18 or 19). from October 1 to March 31. 2. Frightmare on 78
The yearly haunted house is back, larger and scarier than ever, according to the organizers. A pitch-black maze, a rotating tunnel, homicidal clowns, aliens, horror movie sequences, and much more are all to be expected. 3. “Driving Miss Daisy”
With Florida Rep's production of Alfred Uhry's 1987 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which was later turned into a 1989 film starring Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy, theatre is introduced to Tribby Arts Center for the first time. The plot centers on an older, sarcastic white woman and the compassionate Black man she employs as her chauffeur as their friendship develops. Saturday and Sunday, September 30 and 1. $55. 4. Roar Offshore
Fort Myers Beach will host the powerboat racing championships for three days. Aside from competing in several race classes, there will also be a boat procession, live entertainment, a street party, and a "race village" where onlookers can see the boats up close and interact with the racers. 5. Farmer Mike’s Haunted Corn Maze and Fall Festival
For this eighth annual festival, Farmer Mike's gets spooked up with a variety of monsters and ghouls. Haunted and family-friendly corn mazes, a hay maze, bounce houses, a pumpkin patch, axe tossing, and more are included. Oct. 1-31, every Friday through Sunday. From October 7 to 29, the spooky corn maze is open on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets may only be purchased online. Watch the two episodes of the 1960s television series "Route 66" that were shot in Cape Coral.
