Phoenix Suns to Host Dia De Los Muertos Night

In the following press release from the organization, the Phoenix Suns announced that they will host Dia de Los Muertos on November 1 versus the Minnesota Timberwolves:

"The Suns will host a Dia de Los Muertos-themed night to honor Latino culture; the first 5,000 fans who are 21 years of age and older will get silicone pint cups courtesy of Hornitos® Tequila.

"On Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., come celebrate Dia de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead presented by Hornitos® Tequila at Footprint Center as the Phoenix Suns play the Minnesota Timberwolves. A happy celebration of life and death, the Mexican holiday invites friends and family together to pay tribute to and remember their departed loved ones.

It is customary to erect an altar or ofrenda on Dia de Los Muertos to honor departed family members at a private residence, public space, or cemetery. The Phoenix Suns will have a pregame community shrine created by local artist Felipa Lerma in remembrance of this custom. Fans are invited to join in the festivities by bringing pictures of their departed loved ones to display on the ofrenda.

Fans will enjoy a night full of events inspired by Dia de Los Muertos throughout the evening. Catrinas will be wandering the pavilion during pregame, giving fans the chance to snap pictures with them. For the first time by a professional team, in-arena presenter Alicia Blanco will sing the national anthem in Spanish. The best all-female mariachi band in Arizona, Mariachi Rubor, will perform one of their hallmark numbers for the crowd during halftime.

Fans have a variety of original mementos to choose from. A complimentary pint cup will be given to the first 5,000 spectators who are at least 21 years old, courtesy of Hornitos® Tequila. The item of the game will be an "El Valle" T-shirt created by local artist Abomb and sold in the Sun's Team Shop.
