Joe Mixon’s home part of ‘active’ investigation, sheriff’s office says

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is looking into a crime scene that includes the Anderson Township house of Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon, according to sheriff Charmaine McGuffey on Tuesday.

The most recent information provided by the sheriff's office is vague on Mixon's involvement in the inquiry if any.

According to the sheriff's office, the investigation began at 8:30 p.m. Monday when deputies were summoned to the 7900 block of Ayers Road for a gunfire complaint.

According to the sheriff's office, a child who suffered non-life-threatening injuries was transported from the site to Children's Hospital. It was not specified what kind of damage the child sustained. The young person who was hurt but is recovering is a student at Anderson High School, according to the Forest Hills School District.

Tracy Schaeper, a neighbor, told FOX19 NOW that her son's friends allegedly entered Mixon's home as they were playing Nerf battles outside.

Although the neighbor said Mixon's house fired bullets, it is unclear who really pulled the trigger.

The person, or someone inside the property, "opened fire and fired off seven shots, wounding one of the adolescent lads slightly and obviously frightening...scaring to death those who were participating in the Nerf battles," Schaeper added.

The 26-year-old running back's residence, according to the sheriff's office, is a part of the crime scene.

Five hours after responding to the complaint of shots fired, Hamilton County Sheriff's Officers were seen entering Mixon's residence early on Tuesday.

According to the sheriff's office, a search warrant was carried out at a house in the 7900 block of Ayers Road. It was not specified if this was Mixon's residence or a neighbor's.

The residence the deputies searched yielded information that "will be part of this current investigation," according to the sheriff's office.

Somewhere through the evening, deputies taped off a residence on Ayers Road.

A warrant for Joe Mixon's arrest that was issued earlier this year on charges that were later dismissed lists the same house next door as his residence. Records kept by the Hamilton County Auditor show that the property has not changed hands since that time.

In Mixon's yard, there was at least one evidence marker. At about 11 p.m., deputies covered his house with crime scene tape.

After 30 minutes, deputies were seen loudly announcing themselves as sheriff's deputies and ordering the homeowner, Mixon, to come out.

At about 12:15 a.m., they let an automobile into the driveway of the house.

At about 1:30 a.m., a law enforcement officer showed there with an envelope containing papers. Minutes thereafter, several officers walked into the home. Around the house, flashlight beams could be seen. At about two in the morning, three deputies arrived with note-taking materials.

At about 3:20 a.m., the crime scene tape was removed, and deputies departed without making an arrest.
